Ingredients
Scale
6 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
1/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (for filling)
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for filling)
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup quick cooking oats
3/4 cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
1/3 cup light brown sugar, packed (for topping)
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, light brown sugar, flour, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract. Toss until apples are well coated.
Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
Spread the apple filling evenly in the prepared dish.
In a separate bowl, mix oats, flour, light brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, baking powder, and melted butter until crumbly.
Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apple filling, covering completely.
Bake for 45–50 minutes or until topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
Let cool for 10 minutes before serving to allow flavors to set.
Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
Notes
Granny Smith apples are best for tartness and texture, but you can mix with sweeter varieties for balance.
Letting the crisp cool slightly before serving helps the filling thicken.
This dessert can be made a day ahead and reheated in the oven before serving.
For added crunch, mix chopped nuts into the topping.
Pairs perfectly with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel.
