Air fryer churro bites with golden cinnamon sugar coating and chocolate dipping sauce

Delicious bite-sized churros made in the air fryer, coated with cinnamon sugar for a lighter yet indulgent treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup and 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup white sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon powder (for coating)

Instructions

  1. In a pan, combine water, butter, salt, and sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat and gradually add in the flour, stirring continuously until the dough comes together smoothly. Remove from heat.
  2. Transfer the dough into a large mixing bowl and let it cool for 4–5 minutes. Add in the egg and vanilla essence. Use an electric mixer to combine until smooth.
  3. Transfer the dough into a piping bag. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Spray the basket with nonstick cooking spray. Pipe bite-sized churros into the basket, leaving space between each piece.
  4. Brush lightly with butter and cook for 10–12 minutes until golden brown. Cook in batches if necessary.
  5. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl. Toss cooked churros in the mixture while warm, brushing with melted butter if needed to help the coating stick.
  6. Serve warm with dips like chocolate syrup, honey, or Nutella.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket for even cooking.
  • You can pipe churros or simply drop spoonfuls of dough for a rustic version.
  • Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.
  • Optional dips like caramel or fruit sauces can also be used.
